Mmm 27 or even more corks, why should anyone have those?
To tell you the truth I just cannot stop. First I kept them for my cousin, who wanted to decorate with corks, after that I saw a cork wreath back in 2002 and started saving corks for 2 large wreaths, as I have two front doors. And this is the result:

Om je de waarheid te vertellen, ik kan gewoon niet meer ophouden. Eerst bewaarde ik ze voor mijn brocante nichtje die ze wilde hebben om mee te decoreren. Vervolgens zag ik ergens in 2002 een mooie kurkenkrans en bedacht dat het wel leuk zou zijn om er 2 te maken, voor op elke voordeur 1. Dit is het resultaat:

Like studying, when you're indulging in corks they are quite beautiful and interesting and you keep wondering how many corks have different looks.
Toch als je al die kurken eens goed bekijkt verbaast het je hoeveel verschillende er zijn en ook hoe mooi ze zijn.

This^ is my favorite! I could have counted this with the angels, I didn't know there was such a thing as an angel cork.
Dit^ is mijn favoriet. Ik kan deze nog bij mijn engeltjes rekenen. Ik wist niet eens dat er een engel kurk bestond.

Maybe I should save more corks until I have enough to make this^.
The photo is from the book"creative with cork", which was released after the Dutch cult series on tv in 1993. Those were very funny, too bad I cannot share the series with you.
Misschien moet ik nog even doorsparen totdat ik genoeg kurken heb om dit^ te maken.
Deze foto is uit 'Kreatief met Kurk", het boek uitgebracht na de hilarische kult tv serie met Arjan Ederveen en Tosca Niterink in 1993.

Of course I have something cork from my paternal grandmother too. According to my father she made this^. A hollow cork with a matching lid, looks just like a cork.
Geen verzamelpost zonder een bijdrage van mijn oma van vaderskant. Zij zou de maker zijn van deze holle kurk met deksel met daarin de benen dobbelsteentjes, ook door haarzelf gemaakt, als we mijn vader mogen geloven. Vroeger was natuurlijk alles schaars en speelgoed al helemaal. Je ziet dat nu nog in derde wereld landen.

Inside of the cork are a few dice, of bone, which were made by my grandmother as well, according to my father. Of course she made this when toys were scarce. I have seen those on flea markets and at first I was surprised. I thought that only my grandmother would have made such a hollow cork.

A collection of 26: button cards

Hello and welcome to day 26 of my 'collections' series, today I'll show you 26 button cards.
Hallo en welkom op dag 26 van mijn 'verzameling' blog serie, vandaag laat ik 26 knopenkaarten zien:

The higher the number the more difficult to take one photo of all the items of course, but you can always click on the photo. I have done a post about buttons here. At that time I was complaining about our boring Dutch buttons and button cards, while others had the cheerful American ones.
I have gathered a few more since then. Let's take a closer look:
Hoe hoger het aantal in de verzameling hoe moeilijker het natuurlijk is om alles op 1 foto te krijgen, maar je kunt natuurlijk altijd de foto aanklikken om hem te vergroten. Ik heb hier al eens een blogpost over knopen geschreven. Toen klaagde ik over de saaie Nederlandse knopen en knopenkaarten, terwijl anderen van die vrolijke Amerikaanse hebben.
Sindsdien heb ik er nog een paar verzameld. Laten we eens een kijkje nemen:

This^ card only has a few buttons, but better a few gorgeous buttons than a card full of dull ones. This could be a proverb of the button floozies.
Deze kaart heeft nog maar een paar knoopjes, maar wel het soort dat ik nou net zo leuk vind! Beter een paar goede knopen dan een kaart vol saaie! Dat zou een spreekwoord voor de button floozies kunnen zijn, een blog waar ik ook lid van ben. Button floozies betekent zoiets als knopensletjes.

These^ cards were bought in Belgium, I think the addition from Paris shouldn't be taken too literally.
Deze^ kaarten werden in België gekocht, daar hebben ze alweer meer frivole knopen dan hier, maar ik denk dat de toevoeging 'de Paris' niet al te letterlijk moet worden genomen.

These are the kind of button cards that I love and that are hard to find over here, but thanks to a lot of blogging friends I managed to get this^ collection.
Inmiddels heb ik dankzij een heel rijtje aardige medebloggers ook een aantal van die vrolijke kleine knopenkaartjes in mijn bezit.

I have copied the cards and glued the paper on cardboard sew buttons on the cards, so know I can multiply my collection and do fun things with the cards.
Ik kopieer de kaarten, plak de kopie op een stuk karton, naai er knopen op en op die manier vermenigvuldigen ze zich! Leuk om er dan mee te knutselen!


This^ buttoncard image was downloaded here. I think it is nice to make cards from these button cards like this one, to welcome a new born.
Zoals deze^ kaart die ik voor een geboorte maakte. Je kunt het knopenkaartje hier downloaden.

A collection of 25: cabinet cards:

These 25 cabinet cards were in a photo album which I bought on the dutch auction site Marktplaats. I asked the seller what she knew about the album and she told me she and her husband bought it in the early 70-ties in Wales (UK).
Deze 25 foto's zaten allemaal in een album dat ik op MP kocht. Ik vroeg de verkoopster wat ze er van wist en ze vertelde me dat zij en haar man dat tijdens de antiekmode begin zeventiger jaren in Wales op de kop getikt hadden.


I bought this album for crafting, but of course I couldn't touch it yet, though I used it in this post.
Ik kocht dit album om mee te knutselen, maar ja, ik heb me er nog niet toe kunnen zetten, ik vind het toch altijd weer zonde :-}, maar ik heb het wel in deze post gebruikt.

I especially like cabinet cards with children.

Ik vind die kabinet foto's met kinderen altijd het mooist. 

I love to see all the photos, imagine how their family relations are. This album must have been from about the 1880ties. This^ photo is dated on the back side:
Ik vind het zo leuk om bij de foto's een verhaal te bedenken en onderlinge relaties te fantaseren. Het album is van eind 19de eeuw. Deze^ foto is achterop gedateerd:

Now we know we were looking at young master Henri Laporte, born August 13th, 1887.
We keken dus naar de jonge Henri Laporte, die op 13 augustus 1887 geboren werd.

The seller told me that her husband was particulary fond of the backsides of the cabinet cards and he was right: I'll show you the most interesting back sides of this album:
De verkoopster vertelde me ook dat haar man vooral geïnteresseerd was in de achterkanten van de foto's en daar had hij wel gelijk in:

This^ is one of my favorite fronts, it has a blank backside, maybe because the name of the photo studio is on the front too. It might be a newer one.
Dit^ is een van mijn favoriete voorkanten. Deze foto heeft een blanko achterzijde, misschien omdat de naam van de studio al op de voorkant staat. Wellicht een nieuwere soort.

Maybe I could scan these photos and host something like photo Monday (or any other day of the week) to share some of these photos.

A collection of 24: mending thread

Hi! We are still counting up and up! Another week and we will reach 31 and that will be the end of my collecting blog series. Today we are counting 24 paper spools of mending thread:

Hoi! We tellen nog steeds verder! Nog een week en dan bereiken we 31 en dat zal dan het eind zijn van mijn blogprojectje. Vandaag tellen we 24 kartonnen kaartjes met maaswol en draad:

Here are 24 different ones. Most of them were gifted to me from people who know that I collect vintage sewing supplies.

Hier zijn 24 verschillende soorten. De meeste heb ik cadeau gekregen van mensen die weten dat ik vintage naai benodigdheden verzamel.

I think the most well known mending threads in the Netherlands are 'Scheepjeswol' (little ships' wool) here an older and a newer (right) one.
Ik denk dat de Scheepjeswol, hier in 2 uitvoeringen, wel de bekendste is.

This 'Arletta' is one of the few I bought at 'Grootmoeders knoopendoos' (granny's button box).

Deze 'Arletta' is één van de weinigen die ik zelf gekocht heb bij 'Grootmoeders knoopendoos'.

I once blogged about the typical Dutch Hema department store. Of course the Hema sold these too in the past.
Natuurlijk had onze oude vertrouwde Hema ook maas- en splijtgaren.

Even some foreign bloggers send me mending thread, here is one from Sweden and the other one from Canada.

Zelfs buitenlandse bloggers stuurden me deze kaartjes met draad, de linker komt uit Zweden, de rechter uit Canada.

Heb jij nog maaswol in je naaidoos? Tegenwoordig worden kapotte kledingstukken gewoon weggegooid, niet meer gerepareerd, dus dit soort kaartjes zijn niet meer zo gemakkelijk te vinden. Bedankt weer voor je bezoek en je inspirerende commentaar, ik vind het heerlijk om dit te doen!

A collection of 23: small tins

Hallo allemaal, vandaag tellen we 23 kleine blikjes. Mmm, wat is klein?, zul je zeggen. Mijn kleine blikjes moeten in speelgoed winkeltjes passen en dan is 6 cm eigenlijk al te groot.
Hello everybody, we are counting 23 small tins today.
Now in LiLi's World 3" is huge, small is 2" or smaller. The tins have to fit in the little toyshops I collect.

This is that big cupboard where I keep most of the toys I've collected. There are 5 small shops in the cupboard. Most of the tins are in the shops.

Here are the shops at random order:
nr. 1 ^my favorite, the dutch grocery shop, about a 100 years old.
Hier zijn de winkeltjes in willekeurige volgorde, nummer 1, mijn favoriet, het nederlandse kruidenierswinkeltje, ongeveer 100 jaar oud.

nr. 2. ^This one from Rotterdam's flea market, there were some fun items included like the cash register with very small coins, the packing rols, the small scales (shop 1), and the weights.
nr. 2 ^Dit winkeltje komt van de vlooienmarkt in Rotterdam, er zaten hele leuke dingetjes bij, zoals een blikken kassa, met piepkleine muntjes, een papierrol, een weegschaaltje (winkeltje 1) en een set met gewichten.

nr. 3.^ This tin one is from ebay USA. I try to collect dutch items only, but sometimes an international item slips through and most of them I put in the American shop.
Nr. 3 dit blikken winkeltje kocht ik op ebay en komt uit de VS. I probeer zoveel mogelijk Nederlandse dingen te verzamelen, maar als er eens iets anders tussendoor slipt stop ik het meestal in het Amerikaanse winkeltje. .

nr. 4.^ This one from Belgium is almost entirely stocked with wooden items. The texts on the items are in Dutch as well as in French.
nr. 4^ Dit winkeltje komt uit België en is bijna helemaal bevoorraad met houten dingetjes. De tekst op de houten blokjes/doosjes en flesjes is zowel in het Nederlands als in het Frans.

nr. 5. This grocery store is from France. The small box 'Le petit epicier/ de kleine kruidenier' was filled with wooden grocery items and belongs to shop nr. 4.

Now did you count 23 tins? Hahaha, only kidding!
Nr. 5. Dit winkeltje komt uit Frankrijk. Het kleine doosje met ''Le petit epicier/ de kleine kruidenier' was gevuld met houten boodschappen en hoort bij winkeltje nr. 4.
En? Heb je 23 kleine blikjes geteld, hihihi, grapje!

Nu heb je van die blikjes die destijds speciaal voor de winkeltjes gemaakt werden. Zoals deze Belgische groente conserven blikjes.

You must have seen some tins that were especially made to play with in the toy shops, like these ^ Belgian preserved vegetables toy tins, or the 'Hero' tins:

These are behind the LiLi blackboard in shop nr. 5, but I turned them for this photo.
Of deze conservenblikjes van Hero, je ziet ze ook in winkeltje 5, maar voor deze foto heb ik ze even gedraaid. 

Today we are counting 23 tins that weren't made especially for the toy shops, but do fit in: voilà:
(There is a quarter and a euro in the left lower corner, for seize reference.)
De 23 blikjes die ik vandaag laat zien zijn geen speelgoedblikjes maar passen qua maat uitstekend in de speelgoedwinkeltjes. ( de euro en het dollarkwartje in de linkerbeneden hoek geven een idee van de maat van de blikjes)

De meeste zijn monster blikjes, oftewel proef verpakkingen, blikjes snuif of waren gevuld met iets medisch.
Most of these are samples, sniffing tins and tins filled with something for medical purpose.

Van links naar rechts: een klein blikje bedoeld om kroontjes pennen in te bewaren, een blikje grammofoon naalden en een automaten/snoep blikje, het laatste is al aan de grote kant voor de speelgoed winkeltjes.

From left to right, a small tin meant for nibs, a tin filled with grammophone needles and an automata/candy tin, the last one is already a tad big for the toy shops.

3 snuff tins (now empty).
3 blikjes snuif (leeg).

Three sample tins: cocoa Driessen, tea and Droste cocoa.
Drie proefblikjes: cacao Driessen, een thee blikje en de bekende Droste cacao.

Another two sample tins.
Nog 2 proefblikjes.

See the text? 'proefdoosje" on the left and 'Gratis monster' on the right? Both mean sample, gratis = free.
Misschien moet je de foto even vergroten om 'proefdoosje' en 'gratis monster' te zien.

En dit zijn allemaal blikjes uit de apotheek.

And these are all apothecary tins.

To me this collection never bores. There is always space for one more!

Mij verveelt deze verzameling niet snel. Het is leuk om op zoek te gaan naar die piepkleine blikjes en er is altijd wel plaats voor nog eentje, bedankt voor je bezoek weer en je commentaar,
