One World One Heart 2011

Hi there!

Welcome to my blog and the fifth and final edition of One World One Heart. 

Thanks to our host Lisa Swifka you can hop from blog to blog again, to meet the most creative and lovely people all over the world and while you are doing that, just leave ONE comment per blog to win the most incredible prizes. Welkom allemaal bij de vijfde en laatste editie van One World One Heart. 

Dankzij onze lieftallige gastvrouw Lisa Swifka kun je tijdens dit blogger event van blog naar blog hoppen, kennis maken met de meest creatieve bloggers en en passant, door middel van EEN commentaar nog prijzen winnen ook, wat wil je nog meer?  Je moet wel een actieve blog hebben om mee te kunnen doen, het gaat immers om bloggers die bloggers ontmoeten. Het event eindigt op 17 februari en de 18de zal ik hier laten weten wie mijn prijzen gewonnen heeft. De lijst met deelnemers vind je hier.

Well what can you win at LiLi's place?

I wanted to have a give away that reflects who I am. I like a lot of things: vintage, retro, I love to craft, to travel, see lovely old cities and villages and art galleries... I'm fond of chocolate and snail mail. 

So this is what I came up with:

The prize is: a snail mail envelop filled with a card, bought or self made, each month of the next year.Starting  February. So every month you will receive a card, that is if you are the winner of this give away.  Of course I will write a sweet message or a quote on the card too. AND there is a chance to win this cheering up experience only once, just keep on reading:

Nu welke prijzen stelt LiLi beschikbaar?
Ik wilde een give away die te maken heeft met wie ik ben. Mmm ik hou van heel veel dingen; vintage, retro, ik vind knutselen leuk, ik hou van geschiedenis, mooie oude stadjes, musea, maar ik ben ook dol op chocolade en op ouderwetse post in enveloppen. 
Dus ik heb dit bedacht:
De prijs is: Gedurende een jaar lang iedere maand gezellige post, dat kan een oude kaart zijn of een kaart die ik zelf gemaakt heb. Op die kaart schrijf ik natuurlijk een gezellig bericht of een mooie quote. Je kunt ook eenmalig een gezellig gevulde brievenbus winnen, blijf lezen!

Een kaart met aangehechte zelfgemaakte knuffel, deze is al naar een vriendinnetje, 't is een voorbeeld.

Als ik een museum bezoek zou ik jou ook een kaart kunnen sturen. 

8. I could send one of my famous ;-) waving hands cards. 

Ik zou je één van mijn befaamde zwaaiende handen kunnen sturen. 

9. Or just a vintage photo.

Of gewoon een antieke foto.

Ik gebruik graag ouderwetse poezieplaatjes om kaarten te maken, deze is nog hier, maar wie weet...

Are you ready for some hearts? Ben je klaar voor wat harten?

Ladies and Gentlemen: it is that time of the year again: 

It is almost time for the famous fifth and final One World One Heart event. 

Our host is the one and only Lisa Swifka. 

Midnight (PST) January 30th the event will take off. Lisa will have a list of participants on her blog.

You can hop from blog to blog to meet bloggers from all over the world. To stimulate this traffic all participants will have door prizes. This is such a fun and loving event. 

Dames en Heren, het is weer de tijd van het jaar voor het beroemde blog event One World One Heart, dit jaar voor de vijfde en laatste keer, onze gastvrouw is Lisa Swifka.

What (not) to crochet?

Januari is natuurlijk de maand voor goede voornemens, maar aangezien ik nog zo goed als nieuwe voornemens van 2008, 2009 en 2010 heb, waag ik me er maar niet meer aan. In 2009 wilde ik gaan haken en kwam ik niet verder dan 10 bloemetjes die ik gebruikte om mijn schoenen op te pimpen. 
In 2009 I wanted to start crochet again, maybe you'll remember that.

All I did was crocheting a few small flowers, which I used for revamping these espadrilles. 

In 2010 I spotted this kit at Kruidvat (a store like Walgreens in the States and Boots in the UK).

Now this toadstool kit for kids would be a perfect starter, I thought.

In 2010 kwam ik onderstaande set bij het Kruidvat tegen. Dit leek me leuk en dat zou ik toch zeker ook kunnen?

Maybe a nine year old would see before buying that this was going to be a flat toadstool, a kind of potholder, not a 3d model of a toadstool. Mmm I hated it. Never finish something you hate. I searched the internet and found a 3d model of a toadstool here.

Dat viel nog tegen; in plaats van een mooie 3d paddestoel bleek het hier om een platte soort pannenlap te gaan. Jammer maar niet getreurd. Op het internet vond ik hier het patroon dat ik zocht. 

While crocheting according the pattern I discovered that there were 3 ways of putting your hook in the crochet work and that you have to count well. ^ This wasn't the toadstool of my dreams either.
Al hakende kwam ik erachter dat je wel op 3 verschillende manieren je haaknaald in je werk kunt steken. En dat je goed moet tellen. Mijn eerste poging leidde dan ook tot niets. 

After crocheting according to the pattern I finished up with this and 'kaboutertje Weltevreden' (his name means satisfied little gnome) a vintage find of Spring 2010 is happy too. 

Maar toen ik me nauwkeurig aan de beschrijving hield, eindigde ik dan toch naar tevredenheid, niet in de laatste plaats tot tevredenheid van 'kaboutertje Weltevree, een vintage vondst op de markt van Rotterdam in de zomer van 2010.

Nu kon ik me wel aan een groter project wagen.

Wat te kiezen? Nog niet zo lang geleden vond ik een jaargang Ariadnes uit 1973 met begerenswaardige haakmodelletjes:

Well there is plenty of choice of course.

I recently found a volume of Dutch 'Ariadne' magazines 1973 with the most amazing patterns:

What do you fancy more, the sweater or the hat?
Wat vind je leuker: het truitje of de muts?

Why ever do something simple, if there is an elaborate way?

Waarom toch makkelijk doen als het ook moeilijk kan?

I guess my daughter would refuse to be dressed like me...

Ik vermoed dat onze dochter liever niet zoals mamma gekleed wil gaan...

Who needs human hair extensions when you can crochet these extensions yourself?

Wie koopt er nog extensions als je ze zelf kunt haken? (Alleen krullenpatroon). 

In the end I decided to make a blanket. A ripple afghan. 

Uiteindelijk besloot ik een deken, een zogenoemde 'ripple afghan' te maken. 

^ This is my sample, to see whether I could do it. From toadstool to blanket in one step might have been too optimistic, so this is going to be a cushion. I love this pattern. Working in stripes is very addictive.

Ik ben met een proef begonnen, omdat ik het nogal optimistisch vond om van paddestoel meteen naar deken te gaan. Dit ^ wordt een kussen. Ik vind het zo leuk om te doen, die strepen, heerlijk, verslavend.

Though I understood that something like this^ is quite normal in Belgium. If you are looking for a pattern like this, just ask her. It is kind of cool actually.

Hoewel ik begrepen heb dat zo'n muts in België heel gebruikelijk is. Als je zo'n soort patroon zoekt kun je het gewoon aan haar vragen. (Het is eigenlijk wel een chill modelletje hoor).

Ik ben niet zo heel dol op januari. Ik vind december heel erg leuk, ben dol op de Sint, de hele Kerstsfeer, de lichtjes en wat mij betreft mag dan op 1 januari de lente beginnen, maar meestal begint de winter dan pas echt. Alles donker, grijs en saai. Dus ik was helemaal opgetogen toen ik zag dat mijn Kersttakken in de bloei waren geschoten. 

Did I tell you that I don't like January? I love the Christmas stuff, the lights and I don't like the grey and darkness of January. So I was thrilled to find out that the Christmas branches started blossoming today. I think I don't have to tell you that those are branches from the China tree:

Every year it is a surprise what the little buttons will look like when they flower. 

I think this is the first time I have a small Napoleon! (Look right,  inside the cup, photo below).

Jullie zien natuurlijk wel dat dit takken van de porseleinboom zijn. Elk jaar is het weer een verrassing wat er uit de knopjes komt. Ik geloof dat dit de eerste keer is dat ik een kleine Napoleon heb. (Kijk in het kopje uiterst rechts op de foto hieronder)

Tot mijn verbazing geven deze bloemen ook licht in het donker. 

What a lucky day! Now I can see that Spring is definitely on it's way. 

Wat een geluksdag, ik voel dat de lente toch onderweg is.

Sale bargains and one very expensive purchase.

Meisjes, ik weet niet hoe het met jullie staat, maar het woord uitverkoop heeft altijd een grote aantrekkingskracht op mij. Dus altijd als de winteruitverkoop begint gaan wij, mijn dochter en ik, naar Utrecht, samen met mijn schoonzusje die het toverwoord ook niet kan weerstaan.

I don't know about you guys but the word 'sale' does have a magic appeal to me. So every time the January sale starts we (my daughter and I) go to Utrecht, with my sister in law who cannot resist the magic word either.

Another bag, I had this one in black and I used this till it fell apart, so I had to buy a new one at half prize. 
Nog een tas, ik had deze ooit in het zwart, maar die heb ik zoveel gebruikt dat die uit elkaar viel, dus ik had een nieuwe nodig, zeker met 50% korting. 

One of these mugs had been broken, so time to buy something else. 
Een van deze mokken was kapot gevallen, dus tijd voor wat anders:

Van de Pip mokken krijg ik al zo'n voorjaarsgevoel. Jammer dat die niet afgeprijsd waren. 
Utrecht has a lot of antique shops too. I bought this silk fabric box with drawers.
 In Utrecht heb je ook altijd veel leuke antiek winkeltjes. Ik kocht er deze stoffen doos, met lade

 en deze ouderwetse (geen plastic, maar papier-mâché-achtige paddenstoeltjes.

And last my most expensive purchase of this week: my new contact. Since it costed me € 105, I thought I might as well show it to you, while nobody else seem to see that I have one new one.
 Als laatste mijn aller- allerduurste aanschaf: mijn nieuwe contact lens. Ik dacht dat ik hem wel net zo goed even hier kon showen, niemand anders schijnt het op te merken dat ik maar liefst 105 euro uitgegeven heb voor een beter zicht. Mmm maar snel goed opbergen. 

Today is the last day of our Christmas holidays. So normal life starts again, beginning with throwing out all Christmas decorations tomorrow, which always makes me feel sad, January is so dark and grey without them. Today I will be reading your blogposts! See ya! 

Vandaag is de laatste dag van onze Kerstvakantie. Jammer. Morgen gaat het leven weer zijn gewone gangetje. Eerst gaat dan alle Kerstdecoratie de deur uit, wat ik altijd jammer vind. Januari is zo'n donkere grijze maand zonder de kerstlampjes. Vandaag ga ik weer blogs bezoeken, zie je zo...

First adventure in 2011:

 Last night when I wanted to go to bed deadly tired, I dropped my contact lens in the bathroom and I went to bed without finding it. In the middle of the night  I woke up and walked in the bathroom, and I shook the little rug for the 30th time and yesssss; my contact lens dropped out of it. I slept again. I woke up and I thought: I almost lost my contact lens. Then I walked in the bathroom and wondered why I left the sign: 'Be careful: lonely contact lens wandering around on the floor', and suddenly I realized that I must have dreamt that I found my contact again... :-( 

Btw it is still enjoying it's freedom...

Eerste avontuur van 2011:

Toen ik vannacht doodmoe naar bed wilde gaan, sprong mijn contactlens weg, onvindbaar! 's Nachts werd ik wakker en ging toch nog maar eens voor de 40ste keer voor de zekerheid het badkamerkleedje uitkloppen en ja hoor: daar lag mijn lens! Werd ik uren later wakker en dacht: Tsjee, was ik toch zomaar bijna mijn lens kwijt. Ik stond op en mmmm vreemd, waarom heb ik dat blaadje met: 'Voorzichtig rondzwervende lens!' niet weggehaald? Ineens realiseerde ik me dat ik het vinden van de lens gewoon gedroomd moest hebben :-(

Hij geniet nog steeds van zijn vrijheid...
