I'm back!

Hi you all out there! I'm back. Thanks for all your wishes to have a lovely vacation, they worked out great! We made a trip to the US and we returned last Sunday. I was a bit reluctant to tell you that we wouldn't be at home for two weeks.

We started here:

Overal lichtreclames en andere (technische) hoogstandjes.
In the big Apple. We only had 3 full days here, so it was hard working and being picky and making lots and lots of photos. I like the skyscrapers and the special effects of the typical 90-ties mirror windows;

We did some fabulous shopping:

Tinsel Trading Co
Tinsel Trading Company, which was nr. 1 on my shopping list.
See that enormous wall with millinery flowers in the background?
You can click any photo to see more details of course!

In every drawer there is a box with little compartments and every compartment is filled with the most lovely charms and embellishments.

Aaaaaaah you could easily spend three days in here, but I had less than one hour! I still managed to get some really nice supplies. If you insist I show you some of them later.

I didn't follow the suggestion of one of the employees at Tinsel Trading Company, to send my family to the park! This is Bryant Park, which I knew by name through Project Runway, but I never realized this really is a park! This was one of the surprises of New York to me anyway, that there are several cute little city parks with chairs and tables to sit, really awesome!

Prachtig die Bosalino hoedendoos niet?
We did a lot of window shopping too; I loved these Borsalino hat boxes at J.J.

I would love to have this entire rack of glove molds, but I thought that even one was too expensive! I bough the miniatures though at Fishs Eddy's.

And this chest of zinc drawers didn't fit in my bag either, so it will probably be still for sale at ABC homes and carpets.

There even was a place called Lillie's, I thought it was an antiques shop, but it turned out to be a bar.

All we drank was some vitamin water. The colors really cheered me up.
We had wonderful weather, so we drank a few.

Look at the sky! It was about 80 degrees, but never too hot for shopping hehehe!

Here at Anthropologie Spring even entered the shop!

I didn't expect to find a lot of 19th century/turn of the century buildings in New York, but there are. There really are a lot of beautiful decorated buildings that wouldn't misfit in Paris (which has been rebuilt and expanded by Haussmann in the same period). The contrast of several styles in architecture makes the city quite interesting, as the variety in height does too.

En natuurlijk vond ik ook weer wat op straat;
Not only the buildings, the people, the merchandise and the shop windows caught my attention. I was really thrilled to find this pile of junk on the street! There were about 8 of these archive boxes, which could easily be turned into a archive chest, but my family was very relieved that this time even I realized that I just couldn't take them home. Too bad.

Of course we all wanted to visit Dylan's candy store! Yesss these are all gum balls!

Lucky shot!
Due to the beautiful weather it wasn't always easy to take photos of windows, but sometimes the reflection makes the photo more interesting, like I did some enhanced work of photo montage.

Isn't this the perfect way to display your designers' shoes?
(I always call my high heels TV shoes, because watching TV is the only thing to do while wearing these kind of shoes AND feeling comfortable. Hey I'm not 20 anymore!).

I love these little Maries at Juicy Couture.

And there was some serious sight seeing too.

En we bezochten ground zero
We went to ground zero.

And to the small museum of the tragic events of 9-11-01. This museum was very impressive as it tells the stories of people, victims, helpers and witnesses. No one left the building with dry eyes.

Of course there was time for relaxing moments in Central Park, which was really beautiful with a lot of trees blossoming.

It was time to move on again, we took another flight and we went to Miami, Florida!

I love the light in Miami and

the beach

The art deco buildings with their beautiful colors that suits this light so right.

Oh well these buildings are beautiful in any light;

I love these interiors too! This is the Essex House.

The art deco area is my favorite and we stayed there just for a couple of days, to give our feet a little rest before...

Na Miami ging de reis verder naar....
We went here...Let's see where are we?

Iets historisch? Een beetje griezelig?
A little spooky...

Mijn indruk van Disney World!
Some historic area?
No, this is my impression of Disney World.
I think it's amazing how the people there manage to create all kind of worlds. Even ones that aren't so Disney at first sight, or is that the ultimate Disney dream?

Window shopping is always fun at Disney World too.
What about this shoe tree filled with lovelies? Mmm, this could well be Imelda's Christmas tree.

I have two major Disney fans living with me in this house and of course a visit to Florida wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Disney world parks.

From Orlando we moved to the Gulf coast, first Clearwater and after that Naples.
This wasn't the only shark we met...

Wat dacht je van deze?
I love them both!

Through the Everglades, we got back to Miami again.

This time we stayed at the Cardozo hotel on Ocean Drive.
This hotel is owned by Gloria Estefan. I was looking forward to hearing her songs, but unfortunately the cd boxes in our room were empty.

I would love to have this carpet on my stairs!

Afgelopen zaterdag zeiden we Miami vaarwel en vlogen terug naar Amsterdam waar we zondag arriveerden.
Last Saturday it was goodbye to Miami! Time to return home!

The best thing of traveling is of course coming home.
This time was very special as my friend and neighbor Z. surprised us with a 'fresh package'. As we returned on Sunday we couldn't get any groceries, so she left us a couple of tomatoes, onions, eggs, ham, tomato soup, some bread to bake off, fresh milk, yogurt and fresh fruit. What a great welcome and what a great idea. Thanks Z.!

Let's see what happened the last two weeks; I haven't had time to read any of your adventures yet, but I will visit you in the coming days. I have to tell you that I received a lovely package from Gabriela, photo next time, the Easter tags from the swap arrived and Susanna emailed me that she made a blog post with my winged messengers photos, check out here. Heli received my Marie Antoinette package, more about that soon too.

This was my longest post ever!
It is in more ways a special post, it is my 100th!
All comments make a chance to my festive customized give away.
Mmm, I think I have enough material now for the next 100 posts!
Hope to see you soon, thanks for visiting,
xoxo LiLi M.

Oh my it looks like you had a FABULOUS time!!! Wasn't Tinsel Trading FUN?! I need to go back already! lol You did LOTS more shopping in the city than I did (I was chaperoning teenage boys ~ lol ~ I was able to go to Tinsel Trading during the time the kids & their teachers had a class at the UN). And you did it all in 3 days! WOW! I've NEVER been to Miami ~ it looks LOVELY!!! I didn't realize there was such a deco influence down there. I haven't been to DisneyWorld since 1989 - 20 years ago! What a sweet thing your neighbor did by giving you a basket of victuals for your return home!

groetjes, desiree

Hi Lili,

Thank you for stopping by my new blog and so pleased you like it!!

I'll be doing a post shortly about the reason behind the name but it's as simple as being my grandmothers name. I was thinking of changing my blog and thought the two names sounded perfect together and with the recent loss of Nanny Mary it seemed even more appropriate.

Enid Blyton inspired me to be a writer too! I used to love writing stories when I was little... My brother and I had a character called Dopey Dick... a cowboy. I would write the stories and he would draw the pictures... see Disney stole the idea from me and just added a Spaceman!!

Enjoy the rest of your week,

Victoria xx

SO much to see and not enough time or money!!!
Lovely to see you back and still haven't got around to your email .. hope to catch up when the fair is over.. life is a bit bonkers here right now.

My daughter sent me a surprise ticket to come to the US to see her graduate from New York University on Wednesday, May 13th.
I left Birmingham on Tuesday morning and was in NYC Tuesday afternoon, East Coast time.
It has been a whirlwind visit and tomorrow I head home again to England.
We saw some of what you saw (although you squeezed in much more!) but I didn't take many pictures, I am afraid to say!
Your visit to the US looked wonderful! What a fabulous time you mucst have had!
And what a thoughtful friend you have to come home to such a nice surprise.
Happy you are home safe and sound and happy you are back on your blog - the 100th one, too!
