Ik was even van de vloer in december, vanwege een zeer hardnekkige neusverkoudheid. Het lijkt wel of ik een soort van Kerstallergie heb, vorig jaar was ik ook al niet goed te pas. Nu ben ik hersteld en lekker uitgerust. Ik ben van plan jullie blogs nu weer geregeld te bezoeken.



Short after my last post I got a terrible cold. I was sneezing like a comic figure. Mmm seems that I had some Christmas allergy. After I recovered about the day before Christmas I decided to take a computer break. I want to thank you for all your lovely mails and soon I am going to visit you all again, to leave a personal wish for 2010, ok?


De dag voor Kerst heeft hubbie nog snel de Kerstboom versierd. Ik moest alle pakjes nog inpakken en gedichten maken, want het blijft natuurlijk wel de Hollandse Kerstsint hè?! Voor mij bracht hij vooral heel veel tijdschriften mee, yes!

Due to my cold hubby decorated the tree this year.
He did a fine job! This year Santa visited us. He gave us a lot of presents and poems, just like the dutch Santa! He brought me a huge pile of magazines!


O ja, onze dochter wil iedereen nog bedanken voor de hartelijke felicitaties voor haar verjaardag!

Nou, ik kan natuurlijk iedereen voor de gek houden, maar het is niet mijn boom. Ik val direct door de mand als je de boom van dichtbij bekijkt, ik heb maar 1 zo'n bruidspaartje natuurlijk! Ik zag deze boom bij 'wonen in de winkel' tijdens de kerstmarkt. Ik vind het idee wel heel erg leuk. Ik heb nog steeds geen boom...vorig weekend zaten we aan de 16de verjaardag van onze dochter.
You all know that I could impossibly have that many cake toppers, as I am still with my first husband hehehe! This tree belongs to these guys, well done again!
To tell you the truth I don't have a tree yet. But there is still plenty of time!

Het was hartstikke leuk, maar zoals altijd had ik het veel te druk om foto's te maken en voor het grote feest voor de vrienden was ik natuurlijk niet gevraagd duhhhh!
Here she is: our birthday queen, celebrating her sweet sixteen.
I don't have many photos though, as I was so busy entertaining the guests. I always take photos of other peoples parties and forget our own! Of course I wasn't invited for the big party with her friends, duhhhh!


Terwijl ik naar de Kerstmarkt liep zag ik dat onze stad weer een kunstwerk rijker was geworden. Dit staat hier vooral om de inwoners van Dordrecht ervan te weerhouden om hun fiets hier te parkeren. Groot staat die boodschap op de grond, maar ja, niet iedereen begrijpt kunst hihihi!
When I was visiting the Christmas market I discovered that our city had a new piece of altered art at one of the focal points. Usually there are about 200 bikes here, which is forbidden. You can put your bike in guarded areas for free, but people are just to lazy. Now there is this piece of art and there is a message on the ground: this place is meant for walking and for buying but not for your bike! Mmm not everybody understands art, as usual.


Wat ik wel grappig vind is dat dit kunstwerk hier verrezen is met hulp van de kringloop!
Het bestaat helemaal uit rvs aanrechtbladen en als extraatje kun je door de gaten van de afvoer kijken!

I told you it was altered art, or should I say recycled art?
This piece was made of kitchen counter tops and you can look through the sink holes!
Who would ever have thought of a second life of his/her kitchen counter top here? I like to think that mine is here too!


Inmiddels heeft het druilerige herfstweer plaats gemaakt voor ijskoud maar zonnig winterweer.
In the mean time the dull grey autumn weather has changed into wintery freezing but sunny weather. My youngest already has Christmas holidays, starting last Friday, as his school is going to move and they cannot use the pupils right now. So we are taking a rest, perhaps a blog break, doing all kind of fun things and enjoying each others' company. I think that is what Christmas is all about.
I don't have much time for blog visits, but I try to do my best.

Ik heb nog steeds geen boom! En mijn jongste heeft voor het gemak deze week alvast Kerstvakantie omdat zijn school verhuist. Wij vinden dat heerlijk! We doen allerlei leuke dingen en ach, die versiering die komt wel! Ik heb weinig tijd voor blogbezoek, maar ik doe mijn best! Bedankt voor je bezoek hier, geniet van je Kerstversiering en bedenk dat je altijd nog veel verder bent met versieren dan ik!

Hoi allemaal, Ik lig niet onder de Kerstboom hoor en ik ben ook niet verdwaald op de Kerstmarkt; een aanrader voor komend weekend, maar ik ben druk bezig met van alles en nog wat. Ik heb de Kerstboom nog niet gekocht en behoor daarmee tot de 54% die dat nog niet gedaan heeft, geen enkele reden voor ongerustheid dus. Heerlijk dat je in blogland altijd leuke trucjes kunt uithalen, zoals het laten zien van foto's van vorig jaar:

Hi! Just a quick note from me to tell you that I didn't fall under the Christmas tree, neither did I get lost at the Christmas Market, which will be this weekend, starting Friday December 11th. It's just a busy month December, we have some birthdays to celebrate too. I feel like I am the only one who hasn't have her tree up, but I just filled in a poll and discovered that the majority over here (54%) hasn't done that yet. So no need to worry!

Of course in blogland it's always easy to do some tricks, like showing photos that I didn't show last year! This was my loot at the Christmas market back then!
I was at Villa Augustus a local restaurant-hotel-giftshop in December 2008 where they sold these thriftwood Christmas trees:


Vorig jaar rond deze tijd was ik in villa Augustus waar ze toen deze sloophouten kerstbomen in verschillende maten verkochten, misschien dit jaar ook wel! Ze zijn natuurlijk gemakkelijk te maken.

My Christmas ornaments are tucked away deep on my attic, but of course, the latest thrift store finds are easy to catch (read: I didn't store them where they should be).
Let me show you some of my favorite recent finds:


Mijn Kerstversiering ligt diep weg gestopt op de zolder, maar de recente vondsten worden nooit goed opgeruimd. Vandaag maken we van de nood een deugd en bekijken we die meest recente vondsten, zoals deze viool.

En dit lampekapje, ik hou het meest van dit soort geblazen oude ornamenten, gewone vintage kerstballen vind ik minder, maar daar heb ik er ook nogal wat van.

Dit had ik ook nog niet eerder gezien, het is een soort van nestje.
I never have seen such a 'nest' yet. I wonder whether it was put together or bougth this way. It looks fine like this,


Of is het een stukje huisvlijt, zo van 3 oude kerstballen maken wij 1 nieuwe?
But I keep wondering when I see it like this. Yet is has enough vintage details, the small bird with the original tail, the wire, the mica stuff in the nest to convince me that buying this one is a good thing to do. Does anyone know more about such a 'nest'?

Zelf ben ik ook niet zo'n ster in het weggooien. Tijdens een van mijn laatste rommelmarkt bezoeken liet een dame haar fiets tegen mijn karretje aan vallen. Behalve een blauwe plek was ook dit beertje beschadigd, maar ja, ik kan het toch niet goed weg doen. In het nieuwe jaar zou ik toch eens een cursus moeten gaan doen: hoe er voor te zorgen dat er meer het huis uit gaat dan er in komt. Aanbevelingen zijn van harte welkom.
Another one of my most recent finds is this bear, which isn't very old as the top is too wide. When I bought this ornament a woman accidentally dropped her bike on my cart...:-( Now the ear is damaged. I cannot throw this one away though, damaged or not. Do you keep your (slightly) damaged vintage ornaments as well? Mmm I might take a course 'getting rid of all kinds of stuff' next year. Please don't hesitate to make any recommendations!

I'm off to make plans about my daughters' sweet 16 this weekend. I just cannot get started somehow. Why do I always have to wait until the very last minute?

Zo, nu ga ik weer eens nadenken wat ik voor onze dochter zal organiseren die a.s. zaterdag 16 jaar wordt! Waarom, waarom moet altijd alles op het laatste moment? A new bear and a new born in town!

Is het geen schatje? Al zou ik dat zelf niet moeten vragen, want ik heb hem gemaakt!
Met hulp van Rosabears' Marja bij wie ik een geweldige workshop volgde met dit resultaat.

I did a bear making workshop at Rosabears'.
I (mmm we) made this cute little guy in two lessons (2 x 4hrs).
Marja and I were talking all the time, so I sure needed some help to speed up the process.
Marja is an excellent teacher and if your considering bear making I can really recommend her workshop.


Het linkerbeertje maakte Marja, ik maakte de rechter. Marja geeft heel duidelijk les en vertelt je precies wat je moet doen, maar laat je genoeg vrijheid om je eigen beer te maken. Knap is dat. Ik vind ook dat beide beren duidelijk hun eigen persoonlijkheid hebben. Marja, ik wil je hartelijk bedanken voor alles! Ik heb deze beer in 2 halve dagen gemaakt, het was ontzettend gezellig. Ik kan iedereen deze workshop aanraden!

Marja teaches you exactly what to do, but still you make your own bear and not Marja's bear. How clever is that? As you can see both bears have their own personality and their makers' signature. I had such a great time! Having my first internet date with this result! Marja, I want to thank you for everything!

Last Sunday we visited friends to see their newborn daughter Erin.


Dit weekend gingen we op kraamvisite bij Erin en haar familie. Het geboortekaartje ligt linksboven.
De felicitatie, rechts onder, maakte ik geïnspireerd op dat kaartje.
The birth announcement card is top left, the card I made to congratulate them is bottom right.


Het cadeautje zat in deze bewaardoos: een oude laarzendoos beplakt met behang met de achterkant naar voren. De tekening maakte ik met viltstiften.
I decorated an empty boots box just like the birth announcement. I used the backside of a very plain wallpaper to cover the box. I made the drawing with felt pens. Luckily I have miles and miles of ribbons, so the red gingham was in my stash.


Ik voerde de doos met een rood ruitje en daarin zo'n heerlijk meiden pakje, je zou zo opnieuw beginnen ;-)!
I lined the box with a red gingham fabric, just like the ribbon on the announcement. For the little one we tucked a cute outfit inside.

Amor vincit omnia!

Weten jullie nog dat ik mijn favoriete quote gecalligrafeerd door Karen Harvey Cox kreeg?
Amor vincit omnia betekent liefde overwint alles. Die quote geldt maar weer eens in het volgende verhaal over Shannons poppen.

Remember that Karen Harvey Cox sent me my favorite quote? 'Amor vincit omnia' meaning love conquers all. Great work Karen, I still enjoy it every day, thanks again! This quote is so true and therefor my favorite. It brings me to a story of one of the most amazing women I met through blogging; Marie Antionette.

In one of her blogposts Marie, or Toni as she is called by friends, told us about her friend Shannon. A few years ago Shannon died of a heart attack, at age 56 and left a large doll collection.

Dit is Shannon een vriendin van Toni in de jaren '60. Zij stierf nog niet zo lang geleden en liet uiteindelijk haar hele verzameling poppen na aan Toni, die ik ken van de blog Marie Antionette's dolls. Hoewel Toni wel een poppenliefhebster is houdt ze net zo min als ik van souvenir poppen en helaas bestond de verzameling voor een groot deel uit die poppen. Nu wilde Toni die poppen niet zomaar aan de straat zetten, maar zocht ze een goed tehuis voor die poppen. Zo kwam ze bij mij. Ik had aanvankelijk ook zoiets van: wat moet ik hiermee?

Some of these dolls were gathered in that era, or even before, when Shannons' father was sailing through the world and took souvenir dolls for his daughter. After Shannons death the dolls were somehow neglected, until Shannons husband gave them to Toni. Though Toni was quite desperate to receive such an enormous pile of much neglected dolls, she was determined; she cleaned them and she wanted those dolls to have good homes.
Now that is what I call friendship: even after her friend died, Toni cared about the dolls. She knew I love dolls too, though as Toni, I am not particularly fond of souvenir dolls, so she sent me a few:


Maar het idee dat je dit doet voor je overleden vriendin sprak mij toch aan en daarom heb ik een 4 tal poppen geadopteerd.
And that was not all, the lovely lady from the south really spoiled me:


Niet alleen stuurde ze me de poppen, ze maakte er een heel feest pakket van! Bedankt!
She didn't only take care of giving those dolls a new home, but she sent me all kind of lovelies, see for yourself! Now that is friendship or loving your friend even after she's gone. Not throwing away precious possessions, but taking care of them, even if it's not exactly what your cup of tea.


De poppen in hun nieuwe huisje, om mij eraan te herinneren dat er mensen zijn die vriendschap koesteren ook na de dood. De ware betekenis van Amor vincit omnia.
That is also the reason why my home is a foster home for these 'orphans', to remind me that there are some great people here, who really know what friendship is all about, thank you for teaching me Toni and thanks for all the goodies you have sent me!

Now blogging brings me all kind of lovely things, sorry now I just have to toot my horn!
Remember Natasha Burns' revamp challenge? I revamped my espadrilles for that challenge and there is a before and after photo of them in an Q&A with the talented Miss Burns in the winter edition of Artful blogging!

Of course I showed off here too, sorry I cannot help myself. I showed the article to my neighbor Z. and told her that my resolution to crochet in 2009 wasn't a very large work, only the flowers on the revamped espadrille:


Herinneren jullie je de revamp challenge nog? Het Amerikaanse tijdschrift Artfull blogging besteedde er ook aandacht aan en publiceerde in een vraaggesprek met Natasha Burns voor en na foto's onder andere van mijn espadrilles. Hartstikke leuk natuurlijk! Ben natuurlijk trots! Ik liet het artikel gelijk aan mijn buuv Z. zien. Ik vertelde daarbij dat mijn goede voornemen voor 2009 om weer te gaan haken voorlopig alleen nog maar geresulteerd had in deze bloemetjes. Waarop Z. snedig opmerkte dat ik in ieder geval kon zeggen dat al mijn haakwerk van 2009 was gepubliceerd!
Z replied: at least you can say that all your crochet work of 2009 was published! XD!

The other day I heard my husband yelling to our son:
'I just knew it, your mother is a murderer!'
We are redecorating and decluttering the childrens' bedrooms, so these were in the laundry basket:

Wij zijn de kamers van onze kinderen aan het veranderen en er wordt vooral heeeel veeel weggedaan.
Hoor ik ineens mijn hubby tegen onze jongste roepen: Ik wist het! Je moeder is een moordenaar! Moet je nou eens komen kijken^

Welcome to this surprise blogparty in honor of the very talented Susanna Gordon.
If you know Susanna because of her great photography and her winged messenger guerilla art, please continue to read. For those of you who know her but just cannot think of what at this moment: just look here and here. For those of you who are too lazy to follow a link; I will shortly explain what it's all about.

Susanna Gordon is a very talented artist. I especially know her from her winged messenger project, so I will stick to that in this post. Susanna makes these beautiful pieces of art; paper winged envelopes with hopeful lines written on them, to leave them somewhere for somebody to be found, hoping that the message is an unexpected, but very welcome surprise.

Soon after she started, those little pieces of art were sent around the world to be spread by others. Now that is where I come to this stage; I was so lucky to be one of the people who were given one envelope ready to be spread by Susanna, the other given to me was blank and I could think of a line myself.
I made dozens of photos, in my hometown Dordrecht as well as in Rotterdam, finally leaving the messages in Rotterdam, you can read all about it here.

A little while ago, I was contacted through email by Angie Byers, who had the fab idea gathering the women, who were involved in Susanna's winged messengers project, to do something back for Susanna, as we all had so much enjoyed being part of this project. We decided to have a blogparty in honor of Susanna Gordon, Shin designed a blog button and while Susanna was sleeping I was writing this post for her.

In this post I'll show you some more photos I have taken for this project but which somehow didn't make it to the selection, which of course were not that many photos. It also reveals some of my thoughts of why these photos shouldn't be in that selection. Hope you will have fun!



This was the very first photo I made for this project: The winged messenger on a 19th century fountain, which wasn't working at that moment.
In this country we almost always have to deal with wind, so the wings were moving and making it harder to have photos without unwanted shades. I already knew that I don't like these kind of photos of a detail, it's not my style. For this project I wanted the message to be clear too:



In Rotterdam I started with this photo. Message clear, but again what are we looking at?



Next shot ^; I think it is just too bad that you don't see this:



But now^ you cannot read the messages anymore...:-(, actually you hardly see them.
There is always something wrong!



This would be better, you even see the famous dice houses from architect Blom in the background, as well as his 'pencil' building.



Here a shot in the courtyard of the dice houses. My lovely assistant had to go upstairs to put the winged messenger against the gate, then run out of site and hope that the envelope wouldn't be blown away by the wind, which happened, she had to run down, up again and that several times. while I was trying to make a photo. Thanks to my assistant too! These photo sessions wouldn't have been possible without them and a lot of chewing gum holding the wings in their place (credit chewing gum idea:the assistants!)



On other photos there was so much to see that I doubted whether the messengers would get enough attention.



I thought that the winged messengers were best in my photos of small things. But boy did I have fun trying things and walking and enjoying all comments of passers, who were all surprised by the messengers!

I spent two days having so much fun, enjoying every minute of it, thanks to Susanna!

Even een korte vertaling voor de Nederlandstalige lezers;
Welkom op de blogparty ter ere van fotografe en kunstenares Susanna Gordon.
Ik schreef al eerder over dit project, waar ik ook bij betrokken was.
Enige tijd geleden werd ik benaderd door Angie Byers om gezamenlijk met alle vrouwen die bij dit project betrokken waren 'iets' terug te doen voor Susanna, omdat we allemaal zo van dit project genoten hadden en om haar te bedanken. Uiteindelijk is dat een blogevent geworden. Aan de rechterkant van mijn blog heb ik een speciale lijst gemaakt van deelnemers aan dit blogevenement.
Ik heb nog eens een greep gedaan in de foto's die ik nog had voor dit project, het project van de gevleugelde boodschappers. Kijk en oordeel zelf of het terecht was dat deze foto's de selectie niet doorstonden, ik vond het ook een zeer leerzaam project! Wij hebben als groep ook een Flickr album gemaakt, misschien ook leuk om eens een kijkje te nemen, veel plezier!

Sea glass

Als ik het hier over Hoek van Holland heb, is het meestal om jullie mijn rommelmarkt vondsten te laten zien:

When I tell you that I visited Hoek van Holland it is usually to tell you that I went to the car boot sale over there and to show you something like this:

De laatste keer kocht ik deze babyschoentjes en weer twee Tiny boekjes: totale kosten 2 euro! Maar er is meer in Hoek van Holland, behalve de kofferbakverkoop en de bakjes kibbeling:
I bought these and some other stuff the last time I was there, the lovely baby shoes are one of the best finds of the season and the Tiny books on the back ground too. But the car boot sale isn't the only thing that attracts me to Hoek van Holland:


Over de Hollandse stranden hoef ik jullie denk ik niet veel meer uit te leggen.
As the name Hoek = the hook, meaning the sharp angle of Holland, implies there is sea and hence a beach up there. The coast line of the Netherlands and of two of the coast provinces also known as Holland, is a dune landscape. All beaches are sand beaches.


Hier kun je goed zien dat er ieder jaar nogal wat zand bijgespoten wordt; de duinen zijn nog niet begroeid.
As the dune landscape is very vulnerable, a lot of the the beaches and dunes are artificially maintained, to keep our feet dry, as this part of the Netherlands lies below sea level, strange isn't it? So we really need the dunes.


Maar ik keek vooral naar beneden...
But I wasn't looking at the dunes, I was looking down all the time, seeing this^.


Af en toe maakte mijn hart een sprongetje, was dit dan...? Maar nee, hoor ik kon geen splinter 'sea glass' vinden dat ik zocht. Ik had het al op zoveel blogs gezien, maar hier noppes. Is de Noordzee te klein? Wordt het strand te goed schoon gehouden? Geen idee!
Sometimes I kept my breath, did I finally....?
I was looking for sea glass. I had seen it in so many blogs, but never searched for it over here, neither could I remember ever seeing it here. When I found glass, every time it was the same: it was just a piece of broken glass, not the real worn sea glass I was looking for. I don't know why I couldn't find it. Are the shores here kept so clean that there is a minimum of glass? Is the North Sea too small to provide for sea glass?


Na 15 kilometer wandelen zei hubby: nou hier heb je dan je zee glas, XD!

At the end of our 15 kilometer walk hubby said: There you have your sea glass: XD: pointing at the 'glasbak' on the beach! (glasbak= the container where you put your glass apart from the other garbage in order to have it recycled, I don't know the English word)
Funny guy huh? :-(


Je kunt je dus wel voorstellen dat ik in de wolken was met de prijs die ik bij Alison Gibbs won. Helemaal uit Australië stuurde ze zeepjes en badzout van Cath Kidston en....SEA GLASS, eindelijk!
Now you can imagine that I was thrilled when I discovered that I won Alison Gibbs' birthday give away. Yes you're right: not only two Cath Kidston soaps and bath melts, but you are looking at a baggy filled with SEA GLASS!!


In dat mooie pakje zat dit prachtige hart! Alison maakte het zelf en ik geloof dat zoiets ook in haar winkel te koop is.
Inside the lovely parcel was this gorgeous heart, that the Alison made herself, I believe similar ones are for sale in her shop. This heart is in my studio now, but it was too dark to take photos today.


Ja, Alison heeft me behoorlijk verwend!

Ondanks het slechte weer heb ik toch geprobeerd het sea glass mooi op de foto te krijgen, maar het komt het best tot zijn recht in zonlicht. Bedankt voor alles Alison!

Terwijl iedereen denkt dat ik zeker ook Halloween vierde, was ik gewoon een weekendje weg. Ik logeerde bij mijn nichtje, en het peper en zout stel was hetgeen dat nog het meest aan Halloween deed denken, verondersteld dat het pompoentjes zijn en geen tomaatjes.

While my American blogfriends were celebrating Halloween, this was the most Halloween I could get last weekend:

I was staying at my cousins', having a great time, playing with this one and his brothers:


Wij hadden dikke pret met deze ^ schatjes. Is er iets schattiger dan puppies? Mijn nichtje of liever gezegd hun Bichon Frisé Cleo had er 6 en er zijn er nog 3 te koop, als je interesse hebt kun je mij mailen. Het zijn kruisingen tussen een Bichon Frisé en een Jack Russel Terrier.
Is there anything more cute than a puppy? This is one of the four Bichon Frisé x Jack Russel terrier puppies that my cousin has, or to put it better; her bichon frisé Cleo has. My cousin keeps one. Three puppies are still for sale (you can email me if you are interested).
When I visit my cousin we always go to a flea market. It's not the perfect season for outdoor flea markets anymore, but we didn't care. We have way too many things already, so we decided to buy not too much or just small things:


Als ik bij mijn nichtje ben gaan we altijd naar een vlooienmarkt. Het seizoen is wel een beetje over, maar omdat wij vinden dat we eigenlijk al te veel hebben besloten we voor kleine dingetjes te gaan, zoals dit blikje kroontjespennen.

Ik kan nooit nee zeggen tegen vintage kerstversiering.
No matter what, I never can resist vintage Christmas ornaments. The bells still ring, but the little trumpets are silent (the violin doesn't make any sound either...).


En ook niet tegen Tiny boeken uit eind jaren '50 met de tekeningen van Marcel Marlier, die met die prachtige titelbladen, zie rechts op de foto.
Neither can I resist any bright colored childrens books. I love the Tiny series from the late 50-ties, translated from French, illustrated by Marcel Marlier. When you are looking for them, only buy the ones with the title page shown as on the photo above, these are the best!


Alle goede voornemens ten spijt, kwam ik toch ook met wat groters thuis: deze schaal van een lampetstel met nog een bijbehorend kammenbakje en een dito zeepbakje, voor 2 euro 'compleet' kon ik het niet laten staan.
But in the end I couldn't resist this bowl, and two matching containers that obviously belonged to a washing set. The jug is missing of course and perhaps a chamber pot. It is flawless and was only 2 euros (about 3 usd).


Hij doet prima dienst als fruitschaal in de blauwe keuken!

What ever happened to the lamp, the box and...?

Thanks for your sweet comments about my 'me' project for Natasha's challenge last time. Now let's see what happened to the lamp and the box, but first I promised you to show you this:
Hoi allemaal, bedankt voor jullie enthousiaste reacties op mijn 'me' project voor de uitdaging van Natasha. Ik heb nog wat 'me' projecten afgemaakt. Allereerst is het Halloween huisje gevuld met vooral vintage dingetjes: een oud horloge op 12 uur gezet natuurlijk, een oud apothekersdoosje, een antiek porceleinen poppenkopje. Het pompoentje en het heksenhoedje heb ik van vilt gemaakt. De chocolade ogen kreeg ik vorig jaar uit Disneyland Parijs van onze jongste, omdat ik zo van Halloween spulletjes hou, tsja, wie wat bewaart die heeft wat!


(Due to lack of daylight I had to take the photo this way, but I hope you just look into the small compartments, sorry!) I filled the small Halloween house with fun stuff: I made a small felt pumpkin. Put a vintage clock on 12 o'clock permanently, put some orange pills next to an antique cardboard pill box (I have a small collection of these vintage pillboxes). I made a tiny felt witch hat for an antique doll's head witch. The eyes were souvenirs from Disneyland Paris, my son brought them as a souvenir for me last year. It's fun to use all kind of vintage materials to foof the house up!

Iets op de tafel (de buit van een weekend brocanteren met mijn nichtje) inspireerde mij tot de lamp aankoop...


At the end of Summer I spent a weekend hunting for brocante with my cousin and I bought all this^, which was less than what we used to score. Something on the table inspired me to buy the lamp...
Ik trok de draad eruit en zaagde de lamp uit elkaar, vulde het gat en verfde een deel ossenbloed rood en...


Do this^
Gebruikte het om de torso (inmiddels schoongemaakt en met thee gewassen) wat authentieker te maken. Was ook nog op zoek naar houten schijven voor op de 'armen', maar kon helaas nix vinden, heeft iemand tips? De tags die erop hangen heb ik gewonnen op Natalea Kandefers blog Kandeland.

And...
So after cleaning and teawashing the torso I adjusted the painted lamp part to give the torso a more authentic look. If you buy those ornaments at the wood store they are soooo expensive. The three tags on the body were sent to me by the lovely and very talented Natalea Kandefer. I won them at her give away at Kandeland. One side of the tags is sweet the other side is sinister. Thanks Natalea!
En zo ziet de torso er nu uit. Ik heb er ook tags aangehangen die ik vorig jaar met Debra swapte en cocktailprikkers die ik met Wanda swapte. Verder zit er nog een klein beetje van mezelf bij :-).


And now Natalea's tags have company of the tags from Debra, that I swapped last year. The vintage Halloween cocktail pins come from Wanda, as part of the sweet and sinister swap last year and there is a little bit of me too.
Deze bijouteriedoos kocht ik van de zomer in Gouda. Ik wilde er een soort van Halloween medicijnkist van maken, maar eindigde uiteindelijk anders...


And now for the vintage jewel box I bought in Gouda last summer. I was planning to use it in my Halloween decor filled with jars and potions, but it ended up like this:
Ik verfde de binnenkant zwart en verving de rode voering door een zwarte, vervolgens vulde ik hem met vintage bling plotseling...


I spray painted the inside black and replaced the red lining with black, filled it with my vintage rhinestones and suddenly...this black bird dropped in... eeeek what a nightmare. She just fetched one of my rhinestone chains...
streek deze vogel op de doos, greep een ketting IEIEIEIEIKKKKK. Gelukkig had ik de tegenwoordigheid van geest om snel een foto te maken ;-). Weet iemand soms met welke vogel we hier van doen hebben? Bedankt voor jullie tips en comments, tot snel xoxo LiLi M.

It's all about ME!

I don't know about you, but I always have about 8 million projects in mind. Of course a lot of projects just stay there, simply because I have to do other things. On top of that I am very easily distracted and think of new projects all the time. The very talented Natasha Burns had a genius plan: why not do a project just for yourself? Make something to hang on that wall in YOUR room, finally knit a sweater for YOURSELF! I immediately liked the idea, as I hardly have any work of myself. I was about the first to sign up...but...as always when it comes to 'me time', I started...yesterday...and Australia is ahead of us in time :-(

Vandaag zitten we allemaal klaar voor de 'It's all about me' challenge, georganiseerd door Natasha Burns. De bedoeling is om nu eens speciaal wat voor jezelf te maken, leuk dacht ik, dan maak ik eindelijk mijn Halloween project voor volgend jaar eens af...of zal ik toch wat nieuws beginnen?
I decided to finish this doll-box that I started last year for Halloween and who was standing about a year to be finished now...But what about something new? The dresden project I promised you last time?


Ik had jullie toch beloofd dat ik nog iets met die dresdens zou doen? Ik heb een ideetje in mijn hoofd met van die glazen 'doosjes'.
I bought these glass boxes (and at least one other that is wandering through my studio) at the thrift store.


Eerst heb ik er kleine houten spoeltjes onder geplakt die ik in Amerika kocht.
I glued some wooden spools underneath the one that I am going to use for this project. I bought those spools at Michaels' when I was in the States. And then... I started several other projects, I just couldn't stop and now it's four o'clock at night and....


En vervolgens ging ik startte ik nog eens een stuk of 10 andere projecten. Ik begon met dit platen album dat ik van de zomer in Hoek van Holland kocht om er een plakboek van te maken.

Dit kooitje van de Action wachtte al een hele tijd op een make over:
This small birdcage that can be bought at the Action store for about one euro, was waiting for a make over for months:


Zwart gespoten vind ik het veel leuker, ik heb er maar ff een vogeltje in gedaan, ik wilde er eigenlijk een klein feetje in maken. Dat komt nog wel.
So I spray painted the cage and put a little Halloweenish bird in it. I was planning to put a fairy in it and I will do that when I have more me-time.


Dit kocht ik voor 50 cent op de fancy fair van de kerk...

En nu hoef ik het alleen nog maar te vullen met griezelige dingetjes, het eindresultaat hoop ik volgende keer te kunnen laten zien
I only have to fill it with more small Halloween decorations! I hope to show that the next time.

En ik startte met de lamp uit elkaar te zagen....Rond middernacht bedacht ik toch dat het beter zou zijn in ieder geval 1 ding af te maken....

En dat is gelukt!!! Hier is het glazen doosje, beplakt met zwarte dresden bandjes, ik heb er een zijden kussentje in gemaakt en er een klein heksje in gedaan. Een betere foto bij daglicht volgt...als ik uitgeslapen ben...
Here is the glass box, with black dresden trims, there is a small silk pillow in it and a cute little witch, I love it, if I may say so. I'll show you a better photo in the morning. Now this was what this challenge was all about, to make something for ME!
