Taking a break!

You've already noticed; I'm taking a break.
I feel like I have too many heads all filled with too much fuzz...

Last week we decided to make an office at home for my husband, who is starting up a small company. So we made a design, choose paint and wallpaper. Bought a desk and some other stuff for the office. We traveled through our small country from traffic jam to traffic jam to pick up this:

And I made a photoalbum (sorry forgot to take a photo) for these lovelies: my uncle and aunt.

We celebrated their 50 years anniversary last Saturday.
We vierden hun gouden bruiloft afgelopen zaterdag.

Last Sunday I was at the car boot sale...Monday we bought fabric and since Tuesday
I'm fighting with 65 yards of fabric to make some curtains. Though I paused in the evening to see this:

Colin Firth is great!
Aanrader!
Sorry that I didn't visit any of you. Today the May vacation starts and as usual I want to enjoy that with my husband and kids. See you in about two weeks!
Have a great time!

Hotel New York in Rotterdam

We are enjoying a beautiful spring over here. So last Friday my friend Z. and I took our bikes to the ferry and went to Rotterdam.
Rotterdam, I told you before, was bombed in the 2nd World War, the center was bombed away, but to tell you the truth, I always have a feeling that the Dutch themselves demolished even more, for the sake of modern architecture. I think that they forgot to break down the Schieland house:

Schieland huis^.
I always love the details (and the colors!) of historic buildings.
Here a Fong Leng design.
We had a lovely lunch, did some serious shopping and then we took our bikes again and went to Hotel New York for tea. I want to show this hotel especially to my American readers. Lots of you might have seen Ellis Island in New York, to see where your ancestors hit American ground, but where did they come from, where did they leave European soil? If your ancestors are Polish, Russian, German or Dutch of course they might have taken the boat to the States here:
Now this building is known as Hotel New York but from the late 1800's until 1971 this was the headquarter of the Holland Amerika Lijn (=line).
From here thousands and thousands of people left for the New World.
Nowadays the art nouveau building is surrounded by very modern buildings.
Inside there is old next to new as well.
Binnen is er ook 'oud' naast nieuw:
From a distance these look like modern tiles, but if you look carefully you can see that these are photos, printed on laminate, very clever.
The art nouveau cast iron stairs and the 'metro' tiles.
Rose detail.
Detail van de trapleuning.
In the hall some original suitcases as decoration.
In de hal staan overal oude koffers ter decoratie.
 The hotel desk.
De hotelbalie.
Of course I didn't leave empty handed!

Geniet ervan!
Thanks for your visit, hope you are enjoying a wonderful spring too!

Happy!

Every once in a while I read a blogpost with 'favorite things' or 'things that make me happy'.  Today I read two 'happy' posts here and here. I consider myself a lucky person because I'm happy most of the time. I think spring is the best season, but I like them all. This view from my kitchen window makes me happy!
Dit kijkje vanuit mijn keuken maakt me supergelukkig!
A glass of fresh mint tea makes me happy!
Een glas verse muntthee maakt me gelukkig!
This fountain of color makes me happy!
Deze kleurenuitbarsting maakt me blij!
There is some Easter chocolate left,  mmmmmakes me happy!
There are so many violets in our garden, that makes me happy too.
And our new roommate...she is a bit shy...makes me...

Hey pssst...psssst lady...
Hee pssttt...hallo daar...
Yes, you hear me, right?
Ja, je hoort me wel...toch?
Oh don't be shy, you beautiful flower girl...
Ach, wees nu niet verlegen mooi bloemenmeisje...
She makes me happy too! Isn't she sweet and beautiful? She is perfect and what makes her even more gorgeous is that she was a gift! A present from the woman who impersonates good taste; the lovely Nancy Burns, from the exquisite blog 'Fête et Fleur'. Thanks so much Nancy for sending this beauty to me.
Ja, zij maakt me ook gelukkig!
Now the sweet flower girl is sitting on top of the mail divider above my work space. She has sought the sweet company of gifts from other bloggers. This makes me happy!
Thanks again Nancy!
I hope there is at least one reason for you today to be happy too!
Thanks for your visit,
xoxo LiLi M.

PS. Did you notice? Still no give away over here...time flies when you're happy ;-)!
PS.

Having a ball in Antwerp.

Beginning March, I just started my collections project, one of the first sunny but still very cold days, hubby and I took the train down south and headed to one of the nicest cities here in Western Europe: Antwerp (Belgium). Time to share some photos before they expire.
 station^
It's not even an hour away from our home, but a totally different world.
Antwerp has so much more 'joie de vivre'*, ehhm a certain 'je ne sais quoi'**.
 The famous market place.
De beroemde grote markt.
Another corner at the market. Clear blue sky, yet a severe wind blowing...
Antwerp is one of the hottest fashion spots in Europe. Here is Dries van Noten's Modepaleis (Fashion palace).
I'm more the street fashion kinda girl.
Maar ^dit is meer mijn ding.
No little dress for me that day, the weather was still suited  for the large woolen cardigan.
I doubted to have eyelash extensions after seeing this, just love it!

Antwerp has a lot of cute small shops, which I adore. But this time I want to show you a shopping mall: De Stadsfeestzaal (the City ballroom).
This is the outside of the mall. The Stadsfeestzaal was built in 1908, it was totally burnt down in 2000,  rebuilt and renovated in 2004 and it was reopened in 2007. There were always shops here in the street, the Meir. Through the porch you would enter the ballroom:
The ballroom is renovated beautifully. Shops around the ballroom, and around the 'entresol'. The glass roof is amazing and so is the mosaic parquet.
The ballroom seen from the opposite site, with a view on the staircase.
De balzaal van de andere kant gezien.
Shops behind these beautiful gates in every corner.
Stunning mosaic in the staircase, resembling the original.
Gorgeous detailing.
Machtige details.
Here in the 'Stadsfeestzaal' every hour is happy hour:
Hier in de Stadsfeestzaal is elk uur happy hour:
I know, I know, I promised you a follow up of my project and a give away, I'm still working on that and creating cliffhangers ;-)!
Thanks for your visit, thanks for your lovely comments, hope to see you soon,

xoxo LiLi M.

* joie de vivre; the joy of living, the way the french do, making everything beautiful or delicious.
** a certain 'je ne sais quoi' = I don't know what it is that makes this so special (french).

Happy Easter! Vrolijk Pasen!

Happy Easter to you!
Some lovely lady asked me to show my collection of 32 chocolate eggs :-D
Let's take a look:
Laten we eens kijken:
A tin one in the toy cupboard.
Een blikken ei in de speelgoed kast.
This fellow presenting a few, yes these are the chocolate ones!
Deze knaap presenteert een paar chocolade eitjes.
Some eggs on the mantle, I already lost count, but these are no chocolate eggs
Enkele eieren op de schoorsteenmantel, helaas oneetbaar.
I'm totally addicted to chocolate, so I might have 32 at this very moment, but don't come back tomorrow to count....
Well I'll still have this one!

Btw Have you seen these^?
Sooo beautiful!
You can win them here and there even is another beautiful pair to win, just check it out.
Trouwens, hebben jullie deze^ gezien?
Zoooo mooi!
Good luck and a very happy Easter!
Veel succes en fijne Paasdagen,
xoxo LiLi M.
