Les foires de brocantes.

Finally I have time for another post. I have been doing much totally uninteresting stuff, but let's get to one of my favorite summer hobbies; in French: la foire de brocante, in English something like the flea market, in Dutch de rommelmarkt:

Lieve allemaal, ik heb jullie de laatste dagen wat verwaarloosd, omdat ik het druk had met voor jullie totaal oninteressante zaken en met...mijn zomerhobby bij uitstek, het bezoeken van antiekmarkten, brocantes en wat dies meer zij;

Eerst maar een bezoekje aan de Rotterdamse vlooienmarkt. Iedere dinsdag en zaterdag op de Blaak. Ik vind er in ieder geval altijd oude boeken en oude knopen, maar dit keer nog wat leuk oud naaigerei, bloemen prikkers en glazen decostenen om leuke dingen mee te doen.

First the loot of the Rotterdam flea market; I always find vintage buttons and ephemera over there, but somedays I have more luck, I had 3 flower frogs, a needle map and some other sewing things here. And the glass pebbles to create brooches or fridge magnets. This market is every Tuesday and Saturday.

Hier in Dordrecht is deze zomer voor het eerst de Nieuwkerksmarkt. Het is iedere eerste zondag van de maand, behalve de volgende maand Juli, want dan is er de grote boekenmarkt. Ik denk erover om later in het seizoen hier een kraampje of een grondplek te huren.

The Nieuwkerks'market here in Dordrecht, a summer brocante. I think I will have a booth here later this Summer. I'll keep you posted on that.


Dit^ waren mijn vondsten op de Dordtse markt, ik zit nog steeds te twijfelen of ik het speldenkussen zal verwijderen.

Natuurlijk is er ook altijd nog de kringloop, voor tussendoor zullen we maar zeggen, want als ik er al over DENK om een kraampje te huren op de Dordtse zomer brocante zullen we natuurlijk moeten inkopen :-)
'In between' there is always the thift store. When I am THINKING of having my own booth I already need more stuff. So last weekend...


Daarom ook maar eens in België gebrocanteerd, zondag is er markt in Turnhout en Lommel.
I went to my cousin and together we cruised a few Belgium foires de brocantes.

Sinds ik al die grappige sigarenkistjes gezien heb bij Wendy Addison in het boek 'where women create' probeer ik ze ook op rommelmarkten te scoren.

I always try to buy them for storage.

Voor vaderdag vonden we voor het bedrag van 10 cent het perfecte cadeau, alleen de foto van de kids ontbreekt nog.
In Turnhout (Market every Sunday morning) I found the perfect fathers' day gift for only 10 cts.:
It says: 'Drive carefully daddy, I'm waiting for you'.
We still have to put in a photo of the kids and I bought buddies so that hubby can glue this to the dashboard.


Op de Nieuwkerksmarkt ontmoette ik Corry, die dit weekend haar eigen garden fair hield.
Ontzettend leuk, prachtig ingericht, met veel franse brocante, voor elk wat wils.

At the Nieuwkerks' market I met Corry, who invited me to her own foire de brocante; she was having her garden sale this weekend. Her garden was beautifully decorated and her garden house too:


Hier nog maar 1 van de vele ingerichte kasten bij Corry.
Ze houdt vaker per jaar een verkoop. Je kunt me mailen voor meer info. Mijn mailadres staat bij mijn profiel.
This wasn't the only cupboard filled with the most beautiful french blue and white brocante at Corry's.


Natuurlijk ging ik ook hier niet met lege handen naar huis.
Of course I didn't leave empty handed...


Gisteren was er -voor de verandering :-D, de jaarlijkse rommelmarkt van de Wilhelmina kerk.
Brocante servetten, een emaille mini zakketeltje, een eierdopje en een bruidssuikerdoos, verder zie je het zelf wel.
Yesterday it was the annual church sale of the Wilhelmina church around the corner...

I cannot remember when I started visiting 'les brocantes', as my parents were collectors too, and as a child I hated it, apart from the antique toys. When I was about 10 I was caught by the 'flea' bug. So I have seen quite a few markets, but no matter how many markets you visit, you can always find something that you have never seen before.

Here my 2 special finds of this week:
Hoe vaak je ook naar vlooienmarkten gaat, je ziet altijd wel iets dat je nog niet eerder zag:

Dit lijkt een gewone 50-er jaren strassbroche.
This looks like an ordinary rhine stone brooch.


Maar aan de achterkant zie je al dat dit iets speciaals is.
But when you turn it around, it will reveal it's 'secret':


Je kunt de broche uit elkaar halen en dan; heb je een 'lege' broche en 2 schoenenclips. Multifunctioneel niet?
You can remove the clips; now you have an empty brooch and two shoe clips, how clever!

Another odd find:
Nog iets dat ik deze week vond dat ik nog nooit eerder zag:


I bought this at the Wilhelmina Church market. An old small tin.


Een trommeltje met de bodem in het midden en met 2 dekseltjes. Heeft één van jullie een idee waar dit voor was? Het is nog geen 5 cm hoog.
The odd thing is that the 'bottom' of the tin is in the middle and the tin has two lids. I never have seen something like this. It's small tin, a little less than 2,5 " high.
Do you know what it is meant for?
Ooh these special finds, they make my day!
Ahhh vive la foire à la brocante!
