La Couronne

Afgelopen zaterdag waren wij, mijn dochter en ik, aan het winkelen met mijn schoonzus Els in Utrecht. Utrecht is een prachtige stad, het weer was prachtig en ik was met 2 prachtmeiden op stap, wat wil je nog meer?

Last Saturday we, my daughter and I, went shopping with my sister in law Els in Utrecht. It was such a lovely day; lovely weather, lovely city:



You don't need to go to Venice to embark in a gondola, just go to Utrecht!
And I was in the company of lovely ladies:

Els is a sweetie, she invited us over for a day shopping and having fun and afterwards a dinner at her place. So I decided to make her a present. I think you can tell by the photo that Els is a beautician. She has a successful Salon de Beauté "La Couronne" for over 10 years. La Couronne is French for the crown, so hence my inspiration to make her this:

Els heeft al meer dan 10 jaar een succesvolle salon La Couronne, waar ze onder andere aan gewichtsbeheersing, rimpelreductie en verbetering van de huid doet. La Couronne is Frans voor de kroon, mijn inspiratie voor deze doekjes, een cadeautje voor Els:

Two small canvasses, one with La, which of course reminds me of a song 'lalalalala'. So I used music paper as a background. I was planning to draw a crown but after seeing this tiara made by Heidi Wallingford of Birds of a feather, I decided to glue a crown made out of tinsels on canvas.
Last Sunday my brother in law John already hung them in the salon:

Hier zijn ze al direct door mijn ijverige zwager John in de salon opgehangen. Ik vind ze leuk staan!

Of course I got myself some souvenirs of this lovely day too:

Natuurlijk hield ik zelf ook iets leuks^ aan deze dag over, maar ik dacht er pas net aan om het te fotograferen, toch staat deze schemertint er wel bij.
I forgot to take a photo by daytime, but the sepia undertone just fits the cabinet card and the baby shoes, both bought at an antique store.
