Eureka!

End of August our son went back to school. Last week our daughter started school again too. So you would think everything is back to normal for me again. In fact I postponed some appointments during our vacation, so this week it was time to go here:

This is Villa Eureka, built in 1881, right around the corner of my house.
The villa was totally renovated in 2008. Before looked like this:

(foto Van Mill stucadoors, zie onderstaande link)
Now it is totally renovated on the inside and I was kindly shown around here, by the pharmacist of pharmacy 'Merwede'.

The painted ceilings were restored if that was possible and the same was done to the wooden floors (parquet). Do click on the photos to see more details.

Originele details bleven waar mogelijk gespaard, zoals de schouw en spiegel hier in apotheek 'Merwede".
Original features were kept if possible, like the mantelpiece and the mirror here, in pharmacy 'Merwede'.

On the back side of the villa a big conservatory like new building was attached. So that the former outside of the villa now is the inside of the larger building. The villa was kept in its original shape, which is always important I think. It's easy to change these buildings, but often some features get lost that are never to be found again. I think we have to cherish our heirlooms.

Are you jealous of me, looking around in Villa Eureka? Actually I came to see him^ and he is going to torture me for weeks from now, as I need two new crowns. :-(
Villa Eureka now hosts all kind of medical workers, like doctors, psychiatrists, a pharmacy, midwives and of course my dentist, who sneaks into this photo^.

During the vacation I visited a lot of markets and thrift stores. I am totally behind showing to you what I found. I bought the cards I started this blog post with too, I'll show you more of that later. This^ evening purse I bought at the goodwill store, some weeks ago. Of course I liked the outside, but look what is on the inside:

I loved the tickets of a concert in the Raimund theater in Vienna dated November 3rd 1977! That must have been before you were born, I was hanging around trying to be punk back then. What I kind of overlooked was the four leaved clover which was also inside the purse.
But since then:

I won this black board, which still has to be hung, at Shabbyfufu's. Thanks a million Janet, it was awfully sweet to send this beautifully hand painted black board to me.

And I won Miss Sandy's give away at Quill cottage, the most amazing art journal you have ever seen. I was so thrilled!

Look what's inside...

Recycling is my middle name.
I have put the pattern paper straight again, I love to recycle. Do click this photo to see everything in detail. Not only did the lovely Miss Sandy sent me the art journal, but she also sent three paper rolls, a whole folder filled with ephemera, some lovely punched items and a wonderful thank you card. Well thank YOU miss Sandy!

I couldn't chose which page I would show you as they are all sooo beautiful, so now you have an impression of the inside, which is even far better in real life.

Of course you cannot get enough of this either ^ here is the front and the two last pages!
What inspiration! I have taken this journal in my hands over and over again, since its arrival. It's just too good to be true!

And now take a closer look at this folder:

Leuk!
On the front is a small view master pocket, how creative, which was filled with these^, just awesome!

The ephemera folder was filled with these^, oh I cannot wait to use them in upcoming projects!

Miss Sandy is planning to open an Etsy store where she is going to sell the rolls of music paper, vintage wallpaper and ledger paper and also ephemera folders filled with goodies, both like these shown above. Keep an eye on Miss Sandy's blog and don't miss your opportunity to buy those in her Etsy store when it opens its doors!

I even won three more prizes, more about that in future posts, I couldn't understand my luck until suddenly; Eureka! I thought of the purse and four leaved clover I bought!
Let's hope it will also help me to cope with the dentists' treatments!
I have neglected you a little, I was having starting problems, but soon I will visit you all again. See you then! Take care and thanks for your visit, xoxo LiLi M.

Oh my, she wrapped everything so nicely!!! I am so sorry I couldn't do all that with your little bear, he's just shoved in an envelope, so sad, I was too anxious to mail him out.... you'll have to forgive me, poor teddy, he will arrive in a packet all plain, no frills.
He should be arriving soon!!!
He he, enjoy all your winnings, looks like you have been on a streak!!!

Well Lili, you are a lucky girl! I love all of your finds! My favorite would have to be those little cards, but I might reconsider the purse with the lucky clover! Wow gir, you've won some great stuff!!! Don't you just love Miss Sandy? I was fortunate to win a piece of her art and I cherish it! Her work is beautiful and her personality is even more beautiful!
I wish you well with your crowns. That dentist looks like a cool fella, I'm sure he'll treat you right. Afterall, he's got a great office! Thanks for the tour sweetie!!!!

Wow LiLi, even your dentist office is an amazing style. I love all of your Vintage that you won. I love Antique graphics too. I was putting the finishing touches on some miniature paintings tonight, and your Lilies are one of them. Could you please e-mail me your mailing address. I know that I had it before, but I seem to have cleaned my e-mails containing some addresses. My e-mail is karenharveycox@mac.com.

Lovely post LiLi. Have a wonderful evening.

I was so enjoying our tour of the restored building.. such an elegant place.. then you had to go and spoil it with a photo of your dentist!!!! It is not the man himself who upset me.. but the reminder that I have a date, teeth only, with my dentist this month.. Not something I relish!!!
Hope all goes well in the chair for you.. and just think of all those toffees you can eat with your new crowns!

groetjes Lia

Lili! What wonderful gifts! The ephemera album is so awesome! I can't believe that is your dentist's office. We should be ashamed how we let beautiful buildings deteriorate here. This is a wonderful example.

Hi Lili,
The Villa Eureka is beautiful, but I don't think I like who's lurking inside. I HATE the dentist! Your's looks like a good-natured guy, so maybe he's alright. I sure hope so for your sake. I am glad that they have made a good use for such a lovely structure and that the redo was well thought out. Too many times these beautiful buildings are ruined with a poor remodel.
You have been a lucky girl of late. Congrats to you!
Hugs,
June

What a beautiful building, I am very impressed how they saved so much of the inside of this building.
So many times when a building is used for businesses they remodel the whole inside and save none of the
history. Yesterday when we were in Boston we came across the most beautiful building that is being remodeled, the outside was gorgeous and restored but the inside was completely gone, nothing was saved. I thought how sad, all that history gone.

What a lucky girl so many wonderful winnings coming your way…
That is one lucky four leaf clover!
Everything is wonderful .

I hope the dentist is kind to you; he looks like a fun person.
I got a kick how he wanted to be in the picture…
