Gent part 2

Hi there! Finally the second and final part of our trip to Gent. It seemed I took home a nasty souvenir; I  caught a cold, but I'm doing fine again, thank you. Let's go back to Gent:
Again around the corner of our hotel: The house of Elliot,
which wasn't some brocante store, but a restaurant!
You could window shop in Gent all day:
Of course there was a specialized store which sold only umbrella's!
Even if you wished you couldn't avoid culture and history;
Here the medieval Saint Baaf church.
Hierboven de Sint Baaf.
Gent university
Palais de justice
and the former post office, which is a shopping mall now... okay we're back to shopping!
This shop; the wallpaper shop of the Priem sisters was one of my main goals in Gent.
Unfortunately I didn't buy anything as the wallpaper was either vinyl or too young for me :-(
On the right you see Temmerman, the famous candy store of Gent, we bought two bags of Cuberdons (noses), packages of Virgin Mary's, little clogs and so on. Sorry guys I forgot to take photos and they have all vanished!
Tierlantijn
I forgot the name of this shop (and lost the business card).
Gent isn't all medieval or fin de siècle, there is a lot of modern art; graffiti. In the Werrengaren street the artist are permitted to show their art. It is a most colorful alley.
On Sunday we went to the Design Museum. A showcase of art nouveau glass and interiors. Here an interior by Henri van de Velde, one of the worlds' most famous art nouveau designers.
There was also an exposition of Memphis style furniture, a walk down memory lane for us:
Well that is all there is folks, Blogger won't let me upload any more photos. A never ending story.
Have a great week, xoxo LiLi M.

Heerlijk, heel herkenbaar. Ben ik weer even terug in Gent.

Ach zo lief........

Hi Lili,
Aren't the streets of Gent dotted with the most beautiful buildings? I am so sad that we never see anything like this in our country. Too young I guess, or we just plain lack imagination here. Out west where I live there is no architecture to speak of. When I go back east there is more. When the settlers came west, it was more about just surviving, or the greed for gold.
I am happy that my forebears came west to do a little of the taming of it though, because I can't imagine living anywhere else.
But Gent is so full of history and interest I am sure. The shops look wonderful too, and I am sure that I would find much to bring home with me if I ever got to shop there.
I hope that you are all well now and enjoying the beautiful Fall weather.
hugs to you...

OMG LiLi, I'm totally thrilled by the second picture! I would love to jump right into it and take a closer look at all those gorgeous laces, ribbons and sewing notions. Sigh! I certainly would want to hop into the picture with the cupboard full of laces as well. How could you not remember the name of the shop and even lose their businesscard, girl? LOL!
The architecture in Gent is just lovely. There are so many eye-candies.
Have a great week :-)!
XOXO,
Julia

Oh Lili, how I just love this post and the GENT 1 as well. I WAS TAGGED! Unfortunately, my home is a huge mess so any interesting antiques of interest are not in the best of photo scenarios! But I do cherish my family photos. There are many beautiful ones of my grandparents who were absolutely beautiful people. I actually have some old pictures of great grand uncles that were of the De Bourbon family! TEEEE HEEEEE! Somewhere in there, there is a drop of ROYALTY! teeeeheee, I WISH....they were Spaniards.

THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS COMING to visit me dear one. Oh, we are enjoying the fall here; it is warmer than usual, so the builders have decent weather to work in, but today is a bit windy. All the same, it is marvelous. Enjoy your evening, Anita
