A collection of 29: mercury glass birds

This was to be expected; some vintage Christmas ornaments had to be in this series. I'm always buying vintage Christmas ornaments, but you have seen a lot of them already.
Now let's focus on the 29 different mercury glass birds.
A lot of them are new.
Er zitten ook heel veel nieuwe bij.
These^ are the vintage ones, my favorites of course. I have taken these photos quite a while back, so the light was dreadful and the photo too, to be honest. The tail that is lying in the lower right corner is the real vintage tail. Nowadays mercury glass birds mostly have feather tails.
Of course the birds will enjoy sitting in a Christmas tree. Christmas 2008 some birds were in branches hanging in front of the window.
One of them is always keeping me company in my little studio. This one looks old, because of the tail, but the tail isn't silky but nylonish. The special Christmas shops in Germany sell the good old fashioned made birds. With eyes, high quality painting and a proper silky tail.

Talking about birds...Last week I found these cuties at the flea market in Rotterdam:
click on the photo to see the dresdens clear.
I haven't counted them yet, but I have a feeling I could have made a post with 29 vintage Dresden Easter birds too.

Yesterday I promised that I showed you my 'Alice tag book swap' tag today:

I started making tags with dutch Alice in wonderland pages glued on them. I made some mini labels for the antique apothecary bottles with glass stopper that I found in Antwerp and I filled them with glitter.
I wanted a cream and black color scheme. I was searching for a drawing of the Mad Hatter, but I couldn't find one suitable. So I altered the original John Tenniel drawing for my goal: I drew a face for the Mad Hatter and altered his hat, his collar and his bow ties.
I wanted to do a small Jumping Jack, but somehow it just didn't work. Now the legs are still movable, but you have to push them.
The back side was  my interpretation of the Mad Hatters clock. The clock hand is movable and points at too late, as I was too late sending the tags *blush* sorry and thanks Karla for being so cooperative. In the envelope is my name and a little message for the receiver.
You have to use tweezers to get the small letter out of the envelop.
Hatter with jumping legs, of course you can move them back to running.
It was so much fun making these tags, I do hope that everybody enjoys them. Thanks Karla for hosting the swap!

We are heading towards the finale of counting collections this week, I hope you will keep following me on my collecting journey, thanks for your visits as ever,

Mijn dag is in ieder geval goed begonnen!!

Oh, your birds are lovely! I grew up with ones like them on our tree -- hmmm, I wonder if my mother still has them.

Great fleamarket find! We miss the markets in Rotterdam so much, both the fleamarket and vegetable/plant market. We filled our sunny entry with the most beautiful plants from it and were sad that we couldn't bring them back with us.

Again Lili, you did it again! Although March is NOT my favorite month weather wise at least, I DON'T WANT IT TO END because your wonderful series is coming to a close. This was truly a great idea. And...I love those tags! I want to make some, but is all you do is just glue on the text? I can do that! Bunny from I'm Just Saying gave me the idea to color them in tea...I will do that today and then figure out how to do the rest.

Lili, I am excited to see what you have for the remainder. So well done ma belle.

Ciao mon amie, Anita

Lili,
Yet another wonderful collection, I love the bird branch in the window.
I love the view outside of that window as well…
And those Alice in wonderland tags are fantastic…I love the words about time and the note on the back. The Mad Hatter’s face is just perfect and I think it is very clever how you made his legs move.
There are going to be some very happy people out there who will be lucky enough to receive one of your artistic tags…

Lili your mercury glass birds have been such a treat to see. I LOVE the branch hanging in the window with the birdies perched on it. You have quite a beautiful collection of those little Easter things as well.
Your tags are too cute. You put so much work into them. How clever to make the hatter's legs move. and the sweet the envelope and note. Lucky girls who received those sweet tags.

Oh those beautiful birds! I used to have some which I my grandmother had given me, but over the years with three boys in the house they got broken and I miss them dearly.
I am not more than ever convinced that you live either in a big mansion or a museum, lol. You have so many amazing collections!
The Alice tags are great, I love the tiny little envelopes.

Oh heerlijk, vogeltjes !!!

Ga gauw weer verder .

Hi LiLi, You have a wonderful collection of glass birds! I like the vintage ones better too but they are quite hard to find. So I buy new ones as well because I love them for decoration.
Hugs,
Julia
