A collection of 29: mercury glass birds

This was to be expected; some vintage Christmas ornaments had to be in this series. I'm always buying vintage Christmas ornaments, but you have seen a lot of them already.

Now let's focus on the 29 different mercury glass birds.
Dit was natuurlijk te verwachten; ik kan nooit genoeg krijgen van vintage kerstversiering. Nu heb ik hier al het een en ander laten zien, dus vandaag 29 verschillende glazen kerstvogeltjes:

A lot of them are new.
Er zitten ook heel veel nieuwe bij.

These^ are the vintage ones, my favorites of course. I have taken these photos quite a while back, so the light was dreadful and the photo too, to be honest. The tail that is lying in the lower right corner is the real vintage tail. Nowadays mercury glass birds mostly have feather tails.
Dit^ zijn de oudjes die ik natuurlijk het leukst vind. Ik heb deze foto's al eventjes terug genomen en ze zijn donker en eigenlijk gewoon heel slecht. De staart die daar los in de rechter beneden hoek ligt is een oude staart. Tegenwoordig worden de vogels meestal voorzien van een veren staart. 

Of course the birds will enjoy sitting in a Christmas tree. Christmas 2008 some birds were in branches hanging in front of the window.
De vogels voelen zich natuurlijk prima thuis in de kerstboom, maar ook in een tak voor het raam (kerst 2008) doen ze het goed. 

One of them is always keeping me company in my little studio. This one looks old, because of the tail, but the tail isn't silky but nylonish. The special Christmas shops in Germany sell the good old fashioned made birds. With eyes, high quality painting and a proper silky tail.
Een van de vogeltjes houdt mij altijd gezelschap in mijn ateliertje. Deze lijkt oud, maar is dat niet echt. Hij heeft geen geschilderd oog en ook zijn staart is niet helemaal goed, niet zijdeachtig, maar meer nylon visdraadachtig. In Duitsland worden in speciale kerstwinkels nog de ouderwets gemaakte kerstvogels gekocht. 

Talking about birds...Last week I found these cuties at the flea market in Rotterdam:

I haven't counted them yet, but I have a feeling I could have made a post with 29 vintage Dresden Easter birds too. 

Ik heb ze nog niet geteld, maar ik heb zo'n gevoel dat ik ook wel een post met 29 oude 'dresden' paas vogels zou hebben kunnen maken.

Yesterday I promised that I showed you my 'Alice tag book swap' tag today:

Gisteren beloofde ik jullie dat ik vandaag de tags die ik voor de Alice in wonderland tag book swap maakte zou laten zien

I started making tags with dutch Alice in wonderland pages glued on them. I made some mini labels for the antique apothecary bottles with glass stopper that I found in Antwerp and I filled them with glitter.
Ik begon met het maken van tags en het opplakken van een pagina uit een Nederlands Alice in Wonderland boek. Ik vulde de oude piepkleine apothekersflesjes met glazen stopje die ik in Antwerpen vond met glitter en maakte labels voor ze. 

I wanted a cream and black color scheme. I was searching for a drawing of the Mad Hatter, but I couldn't find one suitable. So I altered the original John Tenniel drawing for my goal: I drew a face for the Mad Hatter and altered his hat, his collar and his bow ties.
Ik wilde graag een creme-zwart kleur schema en zocht naar een afbeelding van de Mad Hatter, maar ik kon niets naar mijn zin vinden. Daarom veranderde ik een afbeelding van John Tenniel. Ik tekende een gezicht voor de Mad Hatter en veranderde zijn hoed, zijn kraag en zijn strikje.

I wanted to do a small Jumping Jack, but somehow it just didn't work. Now the legs are still movable, but you have to push them.
Ik wilde een trekpopje maken, maar het werkte niet. Nu kunnen de benen wel bewegen, maar je moet ze duwen. 

The back side was  my interpretation of the Mad Hatters clock. The clock hand is movable and points at too late, as I was too late sending the tags *blush* sorry and thanks Karla for being so cooperative. In the envelope is my name and a little message for the receiver.
De achterkant is mijn interpretatie van het horloge van de Mad Hatter. De wijzer kun je bewegen en dat hij te laat aanwijst is geen toeval *bloos*. Dank aan Karla voor haar flexibiliteit. In het kleine envelopje zit mijn naam en een boodschap voor de ontvanger. 

You have to use tweezers to get the small letter out of the envelop.
Die boodschap moet je er wel met een pincet uithalen.

Hatter with jumping legs, of course you can move them back to running.
It was so much fun making these tags, I do hope that everybody enjoys them. Thanks Karla for hosting the swap!
Hier een springende Hatter in plaats van een rennende, maar je kunt de benen natuurlijk gewoon weer terug doen. Het was een leuke swap, bedankt Karla voor het organiseren.
