A collection of nineteen: 4711

Today a collection of nineteen 4711 items. I just don't know whether anybody outside Western Europe knows 4711 Kölnisches Wasser or better known in English as cologne. This collection was gathered especially for a spot, I'll tell you everything about it:

Vandaag een verzameling van negentien 4711 items. Deze verzameling is speciaal voor een plekje ontstaan, ik zal het jullie uitleggen:

When we redecorated our bedroom, shortly after we moved into this house, we bought and restored this mantle piece. I wanted a French green enamel stove here, which I thought I found on the Dutch auction site Marktplaats. We drove about 2 hours to meet the most piteous people I ever met, who were so eager to sell this stove:
Toen we onze slaapkamer opknapten net nadat we hier waren komen wonen, kochten we ook een schouw, die we zelf restaureerden. Ik wilde graag nog een oude groene emaille kachel en dacht die op Marktplaats gevonden te hebben. We reden 2 uur en kwamen toen bij de zieligste mensen die ik ooit ontmoet heb. Vol verwachting keken ze ons aan en ik had het hart niet om deze kachel, die te klein is, niet te kopen.

I just didn't have the guts to say no and I bought this stove, which is too small here. Now how to enlarge an enamel stove? Just too easy; put a collection on top of it!
My cousin and partner in crime when it comes to flea marketing, had a collection of 4711 items, which I loved...
Hoe nu een emaille kachel groter gebreid? Heel eenvoudig: je moet er wat aan toevoegen cq er wat op zetten. Nu had mijn nichtje (met wie ik altijd brocanteer) een hele leuke verzameling met 4711 dingetjes, die ik geweldig vond...

4711! When I was young, my grandmother as well as my mother always were using 4711 or Boldoot (dutch cologne). Not to smell good, but for healthy reasons! When you had a cold in your head or a headache, nothing helped you better than sniffing a hanky sprinkled with 4711 or Boldoot, according to them. Who still does that nowadays?
4711 Toen ik jong was zweerden mijn oma en mijn moeder bij 4711 of Boldoot, andere merken deugden niet. Ze gebruikten het niet om lekker te ruiken, maar het werd in grote hoeveelheden om medicinale redenen gebruikt. Als ze hoofdpijn of een verkoudheid in hun hoofd hadden werd een zakdoek royaal met eau de cologne besprenkeld en ademden zij die lucht in. Wie doet dat nog vandaag de dag?

So I imitated my cousin and I expanded my collection of inherited 4711 items which came out of the linen cupboard at my parents place. I loved that cupboard filled with cologne bottles, fine smelling soaps and linen.
Dus imiteerde ik mijn nichtje en breidde ik mijn kleine verzameling met 4711 flesjes uit de linnenkast van mijn ouders uit. Dat was zo'n heerlijk geurende kast gevuld met zeepjes en flesjes en natuurlijk het linnengoed.

So here are the nineteen 4711 items and I think I have enought 4711. The collection has met it's purpose; the size of the stove doesn't matter anymore and I have a little bit of nostalgia within reach. I know nothing about 4711, only that my collection is complete.
Now I just wonder; any cologne sniffers visiting my blog? I would love that!
Hierboven zie je dus de negentien 4711 items en dat zijn er ook genoeg. Mijn verzameling voldoet aan mijn doel; mijn kacheltje te vergroten en een ietsje pietjse jeugdsentiment onder handbereik te hebben, anders niets.
Nu ben ik natuurlijk toch benieuwd; zijn er nog eau de cologne snuivers onder jullie? Dat zou ik prachtig vinden!

It is so much fun to read that you think I am crazy to save this or keep that or that you are happy that you are not the only one who saves or keeps all. Ik vind het zo leuk om al jullie commentaren iedere dag weer te lezen. Het is zo grappig om te horen dat er mensen zijn die blij zijn dat ze nog een gek gevonden hebben die ook altijd zus of zo bewaart of dat jullie je afvragen waarom ik dit of dat bewaar en waar??? Vragen probeer ik zoveel mogelijk te beantwoorden, soms direct soms zal het na verloop van tijd zijn.
